Classical Music still popular?

in: Music

Despite pop music from foreign countries gaining popularity, there is still a large population that follows and admires classical music in Singapore. So much so, that one of the most popular radio stations is one that plays classical music from renowned composers and rising talents of Singapore in the classical arena. This is one of the reasons the government in Singapore launched a national art center, named the Esplanade, Theatres on the Bay. This art center served to focus the islands tradition of classical music making and ensured the representation of such music from the four main cultures on the island. The Esplanade now houses the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and is the focal point of many galas and concerts. Many of the rising stars in the country took their first Classical Guitar Lessons here.

With traditional and acoustic guitar being some of the most popular classical music in the country companies that make handcrafted guitars, a time-honored profession in Singapore with deep roots in tradition, have helped preserve and make popular what is known in Singapore as the “Golden age of guitarists”. As a matter of fact, classical guitar music is now so popular that there are even some online sites offering Classical Guitar Lessons for the beginner and the advanced musician.
